 About Our Class

In 2CA, we provide a nurturing and inclusive learning environment for seven pupils aged 9 to 11. Our teaching is guided by a thematic and sensory-based approach, which supports engagement through activities such as sensory stories, music, play, and Attention Autism.

Our curriculum nurtures development across key areas:

  • Communication
  • Thinking Skills
  • Emotional Wellbeing
  • Physical Development
  • Understanding the World
  • Life Skills

Each child follows a personalised learning plan designed to meet their emotional and academic needs. Targets are set and reviewed regularly, aligned with Quest, Q Skills (Prerequisite Skills), and the Northern Ireland Curriculum Levels of Progression.

Our classroom is structured with a consistent daily routine and enhanced by visual strategies and communication aids to support understanding and interaction. We believe in developmental learning, ensuring every child feels safe, happy, and ready to thrive.

How We Learn

We use a range of visual and communication strategies—including individual schedules, PECS, Makaton, and Core Learning Boards—to ensure every child can access learning in a way that suits them best.

Each day includes a balance of 1:1 sessions, small-group work, and whole-class activities, helping pupils build confidence, independence, and friendships.

What We Enjoy

Our weekly timetable is packed with engaging, hands-on experiences. Some class favourites include:

  • Circle Time
  • Attention Autism (Bucket) sessions
  • Phonics, Numeracy, and Topic Work
  • Forest School
  • Soft Play
  • Music with Jo Jingles

We also encourage independence in everyday routines—like putting on coats and shoes—celebrating every small step forward.

Our Class Ethos

In 2CA, every achievement is valued. We celebrate progress at each child’s own pace, creating a positive and inclusive space where pupils feel safe, supported, and excited to learn. We take pride in creating a caring, structured environment where every child’s learning journey is supported and celebrated.
